of course, life here is much easier. the people are friendlier and not trying to cheat you every minute. the buildings are modern and all works of art. the cars are beyond imagination; if you know about an expensive luxury car, don't worry it's here. quite an interesting endeavor driving around. supermarkets are a marvel. they are huge, huge and full of many delightful things from the west. there's certainly less of a chance that i will miss things from home now since most things are available and not for an exorbitant price like in cairo. the drawback right now, since i moved here in the peak of summer, is that it's incredibly scorching hot.
my friend liz (who's apartment i am taking over) stayed on to teach summer school session two and we're getting to be room mates. pretty cool! she is a great woman and i have already learned a lot from her. it certainly is an invaluable help to give me all the 'tips' about dubai. we've already visited a great framing shop with a nice jordanian man, the end all be all of fabric stores, and an unbelievably affordable tailor who can sew everything. i suspect like liz, that i won't be buying clothes at the mall ever again.
so here i am in dubai...stay tuned....
